I'm pregnant! Is it worth getting a newborn photoshoot?

So, you're expecting.... Congratulations! Your little bump is growing away, and now you'll likely be starting to make plans for when he or she make their grand entrance. One question you may be considering is whether it's worth getting professional newborn photographs.

I get it, you have a phone that takes high quality photos in the comfort of your own home, why pay for professional images?

Now obviously, I'm a bit bias. I've been photographing brand new humans for over a decade and met quite literally hundreds of new parents. It's a tough job, but someone has to do it. But of course I would say, without any doubt, the answer is yes.

There is a difference between the photographs you take on your phone to the ones a professional photographer will take. Obviously, we would hope that our custom-built studios, specialist lighting and specialist camera equipment are part of the reason for that.

But actually, the main reason you should invest in some professional photography is because you want to ensure that this tiny, fleeting moment of time is captured as beautifully as possible. In amongst the sleepless nights, the soreness and the inevitable chaos of a newborn, taking some time out to spend time with a professional artist who is going to capture this incredible time for you is so special. As long as you chose a reputable, experienced photographer, they will bring their time and experience to your session to ensure that your family are photographed in the most beautiful way.

Newborns are notoriously tricky to photograph well. They don't pose or move the way they're supposed to, and if their eyes are open thee's a good chance they'll be pulling some rather unusual faces! But your newborn photograph will know all the tricks to make sure that your baby is positioned in a way that is both safe and beautiful.

If, like myself, you're not keen on too much prodding and posing, look for an unposed or lifestyle newborn photographer. Unposed newborn photography doesn't mean our work isn't done artistically or with great skill: it means we know the best way to photograph your newborn in a relaxed, natural way.
